These signs indicate that you need a new printer

Slow but very noisy printing, or poor-quality and grainy printouts, may often remind you of the printer’s age. Even if you may have been satisfied with your old printer until now and deliberately postponed buying a new device, you will no longer be able to ignore the increasing problems that predict the printer’s approaching end. Do you know which other signs will clearly indicate that you should start looking for a new printer model?

1. Paper jams are happening more and more often

An occasional paper jam inside the printer does not always have to indicate problems with the device. Paper jams can often be related to insufficient office paper quality or to incorrectly loading paper into the printer tray. If paper is loaded incorrectly into the tray, multiple sheets may be fed at once, ultimately causing a paper jam inside the printer.

Of course, the situation is different if the paper jams are unjustified and becoming increasingly frequent. In that case, it is most likely mechanical wear of the printer components, so it is necessary to take into account that your printer may stop working completely in the near future.

2. The cartridges are being used up unusually quickly

In the case of an inkjet printer, faster cartridge consumption may be associated with regular head cleaning, which prevents the ink from drying out. With every shutdown, or more precisely after each new connection of the printer to the power supply, a certain amount of ink is consumed as a result of print head cleaning. Such ink consumption is not economical, but it is planned and therefore there is nothing unusual about it either.

It’s worse when your printer cannot use toner or ink cartridges efficiently. Without printing several dozen or hundreds of documents (of course depending on the cartridge yield), after a few days it will report the cartridge as practically empty. But we will stay with the filling for a little while longer in the following lines as well.

3. Buying a cartridge can be quite a challenge

If purchasing a toner or ink cartridge is becoming increasingly difficult for you and you are losing an unreasonable amount of time searching through the offers of specialized e-shops, consider whether your effort is worth it at all. Wouldn't it ultimately be better to call a family meeting and agree on a printer that will meet the needs of all household members and for which you can buy the right toner or ink cartridge in just a few clicks?

4. Your older printer could not be connected to Windows 10

If you are unable to connect your old printer to the Windows 10 operating system, which was released in 2015, then unfortunately there is nothing more you can do about it. The reason is prosaic. The manufacturer has most likely not produced the printer for a long time, which is why no newer driver is available either. The Windows 10 operating system cannot recognize the outdated driver, so you do not see the printer among the connected devices. Unfortunately, you have no choice but to opt for a newer model of an inkjet or laser printer.

5. There may be other reasons to buy a new printer

You will probably not avoid buying a new device even if your printer does not signal the end of its service life, but you will want to keep up with the times and take advantage of modern technologies. Progress is advancing by leaps and bounds, so today’s printers are packed with several technologies your old printer could only dream of. If you have so far been pleased that, with your help, the printer managed duplex printing, you can expect several technological gadgets from modern models. We won’t go into those today, but you can be sure that printer manufacturers truly pamper their customers in every respect, so there is a high probability that you will forget your old printer very quickly.
